Immingham, UK, 10 January 2023, KX Power is proud to announce that its landmark Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Immingham has reached Final Investment Decision (FID) and commenced site mobilisation and development as of January 2023. With a capacity of 80 MW and 160 MWh, this project ranks among the largest grid-scale battery storage facilities in the United Kingdom, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s energy transition.

The Immingham BESS will play a crucial role in stabilizing the UK’s electrical grid by storing excess renewable energy and delivering power during peak demand periods, thereby enhancing grid reliability and flexibility. This initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 40,000 tonnes annually, equivalent to taking nearly 9,000 cars off the road. The energy stored and discharged by the facility will support the electricity needs of over 30,000 average UK households each year, promoting more efficient use of renewable resources and reducing reliance on fossil fuel generation.
